Both Green Belt training and Black Belt training prepare students to lead projects. The differences can be characterized as follows:
Green Belts – Trained to lead projects that are smaller in scope, typically within a single organizational function. The training is 2 weeks in duration and focuses on those tools most commonly used in the execution of DMAIC projects.
Black Belts – Trained to lead projects that are broader in scope and typically cross organizational boundaries, including relationships with vendors and customers. The training is 4 weeks in duration (2 week beyond the Green Belt training) and includes those additional tools required to resolve the more complex process issues, as well as deal with more complex project management challenges.
